The development of new salad onion varieties has been a constant goal for Tozer seeds. We have a strong portfolio of Tozer bred Allium cepa and Allium fistulosum varieties and our interspecific (A.cepa x A.fistulosum) variety Guardsman.
The latest white skinned development from the Tozer breeding programme. A White Lisbon type with distinctive, upright leaves, and slow to bulb, especially in the long days of summer. The stiff, upright leaves shed water very effectively, giving Eiffel a reduced level of disease, at difficult times of the season. Eiffel is very versatile, and although predominantly for spring and summer production, will overwinter with careful crop husbandry. When grown alongside standard White Lisbon, Eiffel clearly stands out as a superior variety and is an ideal companion for Ramrod, especially for the summer cropping period.
A very distinct and innovative variety from the Tozer breeding programme. An A. cepa x fistulosum cross which combines the qualities of fistulosum and cepa. The vigorous root system helps to maintain the strong, upright, dark blue green leaves, which make this variety not only very suitable for the summer cropping period, but also ideal for autumn crops, when disease can be a particular problem.
Ramrod is another distinct Tozer salad onion which has proven itself in the market place. It is a very versatile variety for spring and autumn production. It is winter hardy making it a good variety for autumn sowing. Ramrod is a good choice for producing larger, bolder type salad onions especially if overwintered and left to develop into the early spring.
A tall, non - bulbing variety, which has been part of the Tozer assortment for some time. Although there are more recent varieties on the market, Sentry still stands up there with the best. Try it for summer and autumn crops.
A novel salad onion for the specialist market. Shimonita has thick tubular foliage and a sweet mild flavour. If grown at lower density it can mature to a size comparable with leeks.
Japanese salad onion, for summer and autumn production. This is an improvement over many other bunching varieties, with a sweet flavour, and lower pungency, giving it more consumer appeal. Good green colour, and good taste gives it high market appeal.
The original variety for the salad onion market. Still widely used for a wide number of applications, to back up the more specialised varieties. Our stock of this variety is always well received by growers.
A winter hardy type of standard White Lisbon. Still available but no longer grown as widely as our specialised varieties. Prone to bulb quickly in the spring.
Combines good over-wintering qualities with slowness to bulb. Strong foliage, is very suitable for late August drilling for late May pulling and also for successional spring drilling.
