Caliente Mustard is not a simple green manure crop, it has been bred and selected to produce high levels of biomass (green matter) for green manuring, and high levels of the natural chemicals required for biofumigation.
The biofumigation process occurs when the green mustard crop is chopped into small pieces and immediately incorporated into moist soil. Caliente Mustard crops will benefit any soil and are especially beneficial when used before planting potatoes and other root crops, soft fruit, leafy and salad vegetables. Take care when using before brassicas if soil is prone to club root disease. Caliente Mustard is protected by plant breeders rights.
For overwintering sow no later than mid-October. Spring sowings can take place in the UK from mid-February
