Slugs are one of the most widely known pests of cultivated plants. They attack a wide variety of plants and cause havoc in many horticultural and agricultural crops, feeding on seedlings, leaves, stems, flowers and root structures.

Chemical pellets are only effective against slugs on the soil surface, and pose toxicity to other wildlife and domestic animals. All species of slug are capable of causing subterranean damage.

Nemaslug works underground, providing control where the pest is often present. The product contains the mollusc pathogenic nematode Phasmarhabditis hermaphrodita. This organism is found naturally in soil but only in small numbers. Nemaslug contains these organisms in their vigorously infective juvenile stage where they actively seek out slugs, killing them using symbiotic bacteria which they release once inside the slug. The nematodes reproduce within the dead slugs and release a new generation of infective juveniles to seek out more prey. Nemaslug is mollusc specific and will kill a wide range of slugs including the most important field slug. Once the slug population has been sufficiently controlled, the nematodes will die back to normal levels in the soil
